We are looking for people who are keen to work long-term as an offline captioners for at least 20 hours a week. Your main task would be to author and edit captions for television.
Access Innovation Media provides access services to media, education and business clients to ensure their content is available to people with hearing and vision impairments.
We are currently seeking people who are interested in training to be an offline captioner. You would eventually be home based, but we would require you to undertake inital paid training at our Macquarie Park office for a number of weeks. We are also seeking people with the aptitude for live captioning using re-speaking technology as demonstrated on our website.
This position would suit people currently undertaking or recently finished English and relevant Arts degrees. There is a minimum requirement of 3 Unit HSC English, or equivalent. If successful, you would need a landline phone and an ADSL2+ internet connection at home.
Essential:
· Understanding the needs of deaf television viewers
· Excellent written and oral language skills – spelling, grammar and punctuation and meticulous attention to detail. You will be given a comprehensive punctuation and spelling test
· Good general knowledge and interest in popular culture and current affairs
· Excellent computer literacy
· Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
· Touch typing speed of 50 wpm minimum
· Ability to work well with minimal supervision
· Ability to complete other duties as required
